Water Resistant Corrugated Packaging for Victor's Drinks
Drinks specialists Victor’s Drinks were encountering issues with existing packaging for their make-your-own-beer kits – and came to us for a packaging design review.
Our holistic approach meant we could look at material, design and finishes in conjunction, carrying out a thorough review of all elements of pack design to make sure that their new solution was not only fit for purpose, but exceeded expectations.
The Brief
The pack was designed to hold beer-making ingredients in shipment, and act as the container for the brewing vessel during use. By its nature the box needed to withstand high levels of moisture, including drips and spills, as the customer was required to fill the internal vessel with a large volume of water. The client was keen to retain a board based box, so we worked with them to identify stress points, high spillage areas, and then adapt the design to strengthen the pack as required.
The Solution
We introduced reinforced board throughout the entire box, minimised raw edges, added a waterproof film laminate to the outer surface and a waterproof coating to the interior. Further, by rotating the direction of the flute we created “run off” routes to ensure any water that did meet a raw edge didn’t pool and cause seepage into the pack, which would weaken the box and damage the aesthetic. Together, these improvements ensured the box was pristine from production through to first pour.
Following our extensive redesign, Victor’s Drinks pitched the business concept on Dragons’ Den and won the financial backing of Duncan Bannatyne.
