Realistic Wooden Effect Crate for Tigi Hair Care
We created this award-winning multifunctional promotional pack for client TIGI haircare. Initially performing as a B2B sales tool for the brand to present their Bed Head products to salons and retailers, the design also doubles as an attention grabbing counter top display unit for consumer sales.
THE BRIEF
A long standing BoxMart client, TIGI informed us that they were actively sourcing a wooden crate to act as a sales tool for their latest men’s Bed Head range. Spotting a challenge, we decided to explore how we could create something that met that brief using recyclable paper based materials, and took it upon ourselves to create a showstopping sample to present to the client.
Through a comprehensive design and print process we were able to replicate the structure, feel and aesthetic of a real wooden crate. Folded cardboard panels were created to take on the appearance of the wooden sides and lid, with carefully designed creases between each “plank” to create a realistic 3D effect. Jute rope hinges were incorporated to add to the rustic feel, and choosing a high resolution digital print gave both visual and tactile benefits – the matt slightly textured finish tying in well with the weathered wooden effect giving a tactile finish.
We included die cut hand holes for easy lifting, and hidden compartments within - carefully sized to hold products securely and to also act as storage space.
THE RESULT
On presenting the printed sample to the client they were blown away with the realistic feel of our solution. They immediately saw the huge benefits of a cardboard alternative and decided to abandon the search for real wood, much preferring our lightweight life-like option – even opting for our suggested wood effect artwork! The pack was a huge success commercially, and their initial marketing and sales campaign was extended to include Russia, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Australia.
AWARD WINNING
Critically acclaimed by industry pundits, the box was awarded a Gold Star Pack Award, along with a coveted Worldstar Award from the World Packaging Organisation.
