BoxMart Captures the Spirit of Bespoke Packaging

Bespoke packaging design is a tricky art to master. With high streets and online marketplaces rammed with competing products, brands need to develop and own their specific niche to attract the modern consumer.

Packaging poses a sizable challenge for both upcoming and well-established brands.

Smaller brands strive to stand out amongst the traditional market leaders. In today’s 'dare to be different’ society of self-sure entrepreneurs and flamboyant creative thinkers, getting packaging right has never been so important.

Spirits, and alcoholic beverages in general, are key markets experiencing significant growth. With gin seeing a massive resurgence and cocktails headlining the drinks menus of bars and restaurants around the world, alcohol brands are in fierce competition right now as they seek to entice consumers to purchase and replicate their favourite tipple at home.

How do we get our creative juices flowing?

For leading bespoke packaging supplier, BoxMart, awareness of the latest packaging trends and innovations is crucial to ensuring consistent development in customer engagement and brand relevance for its clients.

BoxMart’s latest packaging solutions, for companies such as Thomas Dakin, Sipsmith and Dubliner Irish Whiskey, reflect the current customer trend towards the purchase of premium packaged spirits; focussing on both the aesthetic branding and marketing opportunities packaging presents and enhanced functionality.

Here we take a look at three of BoxMart’s latest bespoke solutions for the ever-growing spirits market.

Majestic and magnetic – Thomas Dakin Gin

When it comes to a vivid design with an ergonomic twist, it’s a challenge to beat the gift box housing Thomas Dakin Gin. BoxMart engineered this bespoke secondary packaging solution from the ground up to ensure strict adherence to the brand’s refined artisan heritage.

Vibrant print and the angled open fronted frame style box demands attention on the shelf, and draws the customer’s eye to the product itself. It’s reusable nature and simple yet elegant magnetic closure ensures every time the box is opened the customer experiences a little taste of luxury.

The coated microflute box is a best of both worlds; its rigid structure is stable, safe and oozes superior quality, while effectively presenting the bottle to the consumer.

BoxMart’s innovation achieved recognition at the UK Packaging Awards, shortlisted in the ‘Corrugated: online retail and consumer goods’ category. With BoxMart creating a gift box that consumers are proud to own, and indeed display, it’s easy to see why.

A spook-tacular solution - Marston’s Brewery, Hobgoblin Ale

Corrugated board’s versatility forms the backbone of BoxMart’s extensive portfolio. When Marston’s brewery approached BoxMart concerning its Halloween campaign, this brief was taken to a whole new level. Marston’s tasked BoxMart with crafting a replica of the iconic Hobgoblin Inn as an advent-calendar style point of sale unit to house staff treats. The inn was to become the centrepiece of bewitching events and competitions run throughout October.

Hobgoblin has always been design-focused. The brand holds the title of the first bottled beer in the UK to feature an illustrative label, upon launch in 1983 at Marston’s Wychwood facility in Witney, UK. Hobgoblin is currently the UK’s 5th best-selling bottled ale and labelled the unofficial beer of Halloween.

BoxMart has a keen eye for detail. The inn was engineered to be an exact replica of its original illustration; a 7ft tall horrific hotel with decrepit windows, weathered pillars and intricate balcony and railing details. Doors and windows open to reveal secret compartments.

Marston’s were thrilled with the inn and praised BoxMart’s creativity, technical abilities and dedication. It’s no wonder BoxMart are specialists in corrugated design.

You’ve been framed – Sipsmith Gin

Brands require a point of difference – Sipsmith gin decided its quintessential brand should be amplified through its packaging. Sipsmith sought packaging to offer its bottles secure protection and increased product visibility, while still possessing the space to promote the brand’s artisan heritage and all in time for distribution to John Lewis for their highly anticipated Christmas market.

Sipsmith is well known for innovation. The brand boasts being the first new copper distillery in London since 1820, opening its first brewery in 2009. Sipsmith specialises in traditional distilling methods through bespoke crafted copper stills named Prudence, Patience and Constance – the inspiration behind the brand’s iconic swan neck logo.

BoxMart’s innovative vertical bottle wrap design gained recognition at Starpack 2015. The judges commended the pack for ‘creating good shelf impact whilst positively disrupting a traditional category.’

The design’s success led to Sipsmith entrusting BoxMart to incorporate the same distinguished design into their diamond pack – a gift box containing two branded glasses and a bottle of Sipsmith Gin; an award-winning design at Starpack 2016 and proof of BoxMart’s capabilities in channelling symmetry through a product range.

Bespoke packaging design has proven itself a pinnacle tool in driving Sipsmith’s brand image and provoked improvements in brand awareness and consumer engagement, all boosting its company profile.
